Mandate: the primary mandate of the Physician Office System (POS) Committee is to facilitate the creation of sustainable national and Jurisdictional business models that will increase physician uptake of physician office systems, and lobby for their implementation. The IT Hero Awards program was developed in 2001 by ITAC in partnership with Industry Canada to celebrate and recognize the achievements of people across Canada who used technology in innovative ways to help others. The Strategic Microelectronics Council advocates for support of a vibrant microelectronics industry in Canada, promotes networking through annual conferences and the sharing of knowledge through a series of regional Best Practice Forums. The SMCouncil also deals with issues associated with eligibility of microelectronics R&D claims under the SR&ED Program. The SMCouncil is lobbying government to increase the supply of highly qualified people (HQP) for the microelectronics industry.

The Smart Regulation Forum grew out of the ITAC Board’s Telecom Committee, which was established to develop ITAC’s substantial input to the Federal Government’s critically important Telecom Policy Review. The committee’s mandate was subsequently expanded to reflect the importance to the entire ICT industry of a legal, policy and regulatory environment that supports innovation and growth across the entire Canadian economy.

The Public Sector Business Committee consists of senior corporate business leaders from ITAC’s membership whose companies focus on sales to government. The committee meets 6 to 8 times a year to monitor, assess and advise on procurement policies and practices. Government officials are regular participants of the meetings and are given time to report at each meeting on progress made on IT procurement initiatives. The committee has councils for large transformational projects, professional services, telecom, and terms and conditions. These councils consist of interested members and are responsible for reviewing issues and presenting recommendations to government.

This committee provides oversight of issues such as competitive tax structure, strategic human resource policy for the 21st century, robust business R&D ecosystem, healthy venture capital climate, progressive approach to intellectual property and a strategic approach to the benefits of offshore outsourcing and nearshoring. This committee will give regular feedback to the national Board of Directors on developments that might impede or accelerate Canada’s competitiveness as a knowledge-based leader. It will also identify initiatives for ITAC to undertake to advance Canada’s competitiveness. These initiatives might take the form of research studies, white papers, government relations initiatives or communications plans.

The agenda for each quarterly meeting of this new industry-government policy roundtable, will include two or three substantial presentations on issues or initiatives of interest and updates on a variety of ongoing activities. Topics include the role of ICT in reducing the carbon footprint, product stewardship, the smart grid, reduction of toxic substances and design for the environment.

ITAC’s Cyber Security Forum is an industry-government policy roundtable that meets quarterly to discuss issues such as cyber crime, cryptography policy, critical infrastructure protection, national security, network security, spyware, phishing, etc.

The ITAC Board of Governors is comprised of the most senior Canadian person from each of our member companies, our national ITAC Board of Directors, our Ontario Board of Directors, our ITAC Health Board of Directors and the chairs from each ICT association from across Canada. There are quarterly executive dinners with topical speakers. The Governors influence topics chosen for the speeches as well as direction taken by ITAC on major issues. The Governors receive regular focused updates from the President & CEO of ITAC on key areas of interest, reporting outcomes achieved.
